Bengal-Nagpur Railway Volunteer Rifle Corps

Preston first appears in Thacker’s Indian Directory in 1901, being listed as an Assistant Electrical Engineer at Kidderpore, the same publication charting his subsequent move to the Andaman Islands, where he was employed as a Mechanical Engineer in the Marine Department, and as a Visiting Engineer at the Chatham Saw Mill. By 1907, however, he is listed as an Electrician employed in the Locomotive Department of Bengal-Nagpur Railway at Khargur, and he remained similarly employed until at least 1929, latterly as Acting District Electrical Superintendent at Bilaspur. He was awarded his Indian Volunteer Long Service Medal in IAO 481 of 6 September 1909; sold with related research.
