Crimea 1854-56, 3 clasps, Balaklava, Inkermann, Sebastopol (W. Madgwick, 6th Dragns.) officially impressed naming with additional details regimentally engraved ‘No. 977’ and ‘6th D’ on either side as often found to this regiment, some edge bruising and contact marks, therefore nearly very fine £1000-1200
The 6th Dragoons had two men killed and thirteen wounded in the Charge of the Heavy Brigade at Balaklava on 25 October 1854. Eight men were awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal
William Madgwick was born at Midhurst, Sussex, and enlisted there for the 6th Dragoons on 24 November 1846. During his service of 16 years 194 days he was five times entered into the Regimental Defaulters Book and was once tried by Court Martial, for disgraceful conduct, for which he was tried and imprisoned for nearly six months. He nevertheless held two good conduct badges at the time of his discharge on 27 November 1863, as well as the ‘Crimean Medal with clasps for Inkermann, Balaklava & Sebastopol & Turkish War Medal’.
