Henry Archibald Anderson was born on 29 September 1852. He was commissioned a Lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion 7th Regiment on 16 July 1873. Whilst serving in India he was appointed Instructor in Musketry, September 1880-January 1881, and on 12 January he was promoted to Captain and later served with the 1st Battalion. Captain Anderson resigned from the regular army in November 1884 and was appointed a Captain in the 4th (Militia) Battalion of the Royal Fusiliers. He retired as Honorary Major on 2 January 1895. Major Anderson rejoined the service on the outbreak of the war in South Africa and was appointed second in command of the 20th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry (Rough Riders). He served in South Africa and was mentioned in Lord Robert’s despatch of 4 September 1901. He returned to England on 27 November 1900 and there resigned his commission. His name appears several times in the Records of the Rough Riders. With some copied research.
