Jesse Brewer was born in Great Waltham, Essex in 1840. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for the 60th Royal Rifles at Romford, Essex on 9 February 1859. Posted to the 2nd Battalion, he served in India and thence China and Hong Kong, January 1860-November 1861. For his service in China he was awarded the medal with clasps for Taku Forts 1860 and Pekin 1860. After service in Ireland during the Fenian troubles of 1866, Brewer was discharged on 23 March 1870 and entered the Army Reserve, being briefly recalled to the colours in 1878. He was belatedly awarded the Army L.S. & G.C. Medal in 1887. Latterly employed as a Groom, he died in December 1899. Sold with copied research.
