The British Windward Islands was a British Colony in existence between 1833 and 1960. During the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, it was composed of the islands of Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, the Grenadines and Dominica. The islands became part of the short-lived West Indies Federation, 1958-62, before reverting to separate colony status and gaining individual independence in the 1970’s.
