Lieutenant Colonel James Cosmo Russell was killed in action at Frezenberg Ridge on 31 July 1917 whilst serving with the 9th battalion, Hodson’s Horse, attached to the 6th battalion, Cameron Highlanders. Russell was entitled to the D.S.O. London Gazette 1 January 1917.
