Henry Martyn Slater was born in September 1857, and was appointed Lieutenant in September 1877. He served in Afghanistan with “G” Battery, 4 Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, and was present at the battle of Ahmed Khel and the action of Arzu. He became Colonel in 1906 and retired in 1908. He was recalled during the Great War but did not qualify for any medals.
