A rare Great War ‘Cameroons’ casualty group of three to Captain E. S. Brand, Royal Fusiliers, attached West African Regiment

Captain Ernest Stanley Brand was born in December 1878 and educated at Arlington House, Brighton and Charterhouse. He joined the 3rd battalion, Royal Fusiliers from the Militia in January 1897, becoming Lieutenant in January 1900. He served in Malta, Giraltar and China for five years, gaining his Captaincy at the latter. From July 1906 to December 1910 he served with the West African Regiment.
He was ordered to the Cameroons on the outbreak of the Great War and was acting as Second-in-Command, West African Regiment when he was shot in the neck and killed instantaneously in the attack on Yabassi on 8 October 1914.
