Edward Saunders Kennedy enlisted on 12 June 1840, arrived at Ferozepore in November 1840, and was commissioned as Ensign on 9 January 1841. He served with Brigadier Wild at Peshawur and was then sent forward under Lieutenant-Colonel Mosely but was forced to evacuate and retreat to Jamrud with heavy losses. He served with General Pollock’s column at the forcing of the Khyber Pass on 5 April 1842, and at the subsequent march to Jellalabad and Cabul. Promoted Lieutenant on 16 July 1842, he went on field service during 1844 against the Jakranis and Bugtis, and the following year was present at the reduction of Trakki. He served at Barrackpore, Allahabad and Agra from 1846 to 1852 and died at Meerut on 15 October 1852.
