Ex Glendining December 1906

James Cooke was born in the Parish of Wickward, near Bristol, and enlisted for the 50th Foot at Steyning, Sussex, on 5 May 1805. The Muster rolls for June 1814 show him as servant to Captain Hamilton, A.D.C. to Major-General Edward Barnes. In December 1814 he is shown as servant to Barnes himself and served in that capacity at the battle of Waterloo. He was discharged at Londonderry on 26 October 1817, in consequence of ‘asthma and general ill health. He is rendered totally unfit for service.’ Admitted to the Royal Kilmainham Hospital on 12 November 1817, his total service amounted to 14 years 175 days including 2 years for Waterloo. Sold with copy discharge certificate.
