Auction Catalogue
A Great War period sweetheart’s brooch, comprising central letter ‘A’ flanked by wings, the whole set with rose cut diamonds in a white gold, gold mount, reverse pin for wearing, 50mm. diam., in good condition
£150-200
Formerly the property of Squadron Leader Martin George Byard Copeman, Royal Air Force, late Leicestershire Regiment and Royal Flying Corps; see Lot 871 for career details.
No official branch of the Royal Flying Corps or Royal Air Force would appear to be represented by a single letter ‘A’, thereby suggesting this brooch was presented to a lady whose name began with said letter.
The standard issue of these 'wings' was worn by officers of the RNR and RNVR who were attached to the RNAS
