George William Tomalin was born in Canterbury, Kent. A Plasterer by occupation, he attested for the 45th Brigade at Canterbury, on 31 December 1877. He was transferred to the 32nd Regiment in April 1878 and thence the 91st Regiment in February 1879. With the 91st Regiment he went to South Africa, the regiment being part of the Ehowa Relief Column, seeing action at Gingindhovu and latterly at the battle of Ulundi. Tomalin was discharged in England on 20 December 1879 suffering from Chronic Hepatitus. Sold with copied service papers and other research.
