WORLD ART MEDALS United States of America, Jane Addams, bronze portrait medal by Maria Bariera, 80mm. Extremely fine (£35-40)
Jane Addams (1860-1935), American social reformer, founder of the Centre of Social Assistance, Hull House, Chicago, President of the International League of Women for Peace and Freedom, and winner of the Nobel Prize, 1931. The date when this was issued is uncertain (the consignor has suggested 1935, the cataloguer suspects a slightly later date), as is the country of origin. The reverse legend is in Spanish and the medal was probably struck in a Latin American country and Cuba springs to mind as at least a possibility.
