Sold with a letter from the Public Record Office, dated September 1963, which states that ‘Medal Rolls (W.O.100/110) show that George Beamish was awarded the Canada General Service Medal with Bars for Fenian Raids 1866 and 1870, and Red River Expedition 1870’. However, his name does not appear on any of the published rolls by Brown, Thyen or Neale & Irwin.
Beamish’s name is entered by hand in ink on the official medal roll [WO100/110] but no clasp entitlement is shown. His claim was sent from the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, and the medal was issued on 15 December 1910. Lieutenant William F. Butler served with the 69th Foot in the Fenian Raid 1870 Expedition and as Intelligence officer on the staff with the Red River Expedition. Butler is the only recorded recipient of the Red River clasp to the 69th but was Beamish possibly also there as his batman or servant? Sold with relevant photocopies of rolls and musters.
