Ernest Henry Vines was born, lived and enlisted in Southwark. Serving in the 2nd Battalion London Regiment, he was killed in action on 1 January 1917, aged 23 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial. He was the son of Alfred Thomas and Elizabeth Vines of 26 Hayles Buildings, St. George’s Road, Southwark, London.
