Richard Norgate was born in Bishop Sutton, Hampshire, and enlisted in the Royal Engineers on 31 August 1855, aged 18 years. He served during the Indian Mutiny in Central India, and was present at the siege and capture of Chandairee, the siege and capture of Jhansi, and actions of Betwa, Koonch, Goolow, Calpee, Gwalior and Singowlee. He was awarded the L.S. & G.C. medal with a gratuity of £5, and was discharged on 2 October 1877. Sold with copy discharge papers.
