Mary Dorothy Rabbidge was born at Newcastle-upon-Tyne on 15 October 1885. Silver-gilt and enamels was educated privately and trained at Guy’s Hospital form 1911 to 1914, becoming Theatre Sister there in March 1915. She applied to join the Indian Service in August 1915, and left Tilbury for India in the P & O S.S. Arabia in November 1915. She completed her first term of 5 years in the service and signed on for a further term, but appears to have resigned before completing it.
