Lieutenant Alec Clarkson Maclean, born at Ryde, Isle of White in October 1884, educated at Haileybury College and at the Crystal Palace School of Engineering. He gained his practical engineering training on the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway and was later appointed an Assistant Engineer on the Lagos Government Railway. In 1910 he joined the staff of the Buenos Aires Western Railway and was engaged on construction and maintenance. He was elected an Associate Member of the Civil Engineers Institution in January 1910. During the Great War he served with 296 Railway Company Royal Engineers and was killed in action France and Flanders 9 April 1918. He is buried in Haverskerque British Cemetery, France.
