Described from the originals in the collection of Sir George Chetwynd, Baronet, of Grendon Hall, in the County of Warwick. 1st edn, London, Privately Printed by J.B. Nichols & Son, 1834. Thick 4to, rebound in 1913 in half brown morocco, gilt, with original green cloth covers bound in, ‘Interleaved copy with above 1,000 illustrations of the tokens neatly inserted and portraits of Sharp and Sir G. Chetwynd’. (2), i-x intro, xiii-xxi index, 280pp (the omission pp xi-xii is correct). Vignette of a Grendon Hall token on title; large engraved vignette of the hall on verso of last leaf. Contains manuscript notes, letters and photographs of Waters, Hamer, Davis and Atkins. This book has received much praise. Waters calls it ‘a fine work’; Atkins ‘an excellent and valuable work’, and Davis notes that it is ‘admirable but admittedly incomplete’.
