Edward Eagles was born in Gillingham, Kent. As a Yeoman, he attested for the Royal Horse Guards at London on 14 August 1828, aged 18 years, 8 months. Serving throughout in England, he was promoted to Serjeant in September 1832; Hospital Serjeant in July 1844 and Hospital Serjeant-Major in July 1851. He was discharged due to chronic gout on 11 April 1854; his intended place of residence being stated as Saffron Walden, Essex. As a Hospital Corporal-Major in the Royal Horse Guards he was awarded the M.S.M. and an annuity of £10 on 22 June 1892. Edward Eagles died on 15 August 1895. With copied service papers.
