A COLLECTION OF 1851 GREAT EXHIBITION MEDALS, Council Medal, 1851, by W. Wyon and J.F. Domard, in bronze, similar, edge named (The Honourable East India Company), 89mm (BHM 2461; E 1455); together with Services Medal, in bronze, by W. Wyon, bust of Prince Albert left, reverse FOR SERVICES in wreath, edge named (East India Company, Presentation), 48mm (BHM 2465; E 1461), and Exhibitor’s Medal, in bronze, by W. Wyon, similar, reverse globe, edge named (East India Company, Presentation), 44mm (BHM 2463; E 1462) [3]. Former with minor rim bruising and light scuffing in centre of obverse, otherwise extremely fine, others brilliant and practically as struck, the first rare, all most interesting as association pieces (£150-250)

John Shepherd (d. 1859), chairman of the Hon. East India Company in 1844 and 1850-1, was also one of the 24 Royal Commissioners at the 1851 Great Exhibition; it would surely have been him who received these medals on behalf of the Company
