Frederick R. Gaunt enlisted on 4 March 1854. The musters show he was effective in the period 1 October to 31 December of that year. He died at Scutari on 30 January 1855.

According to Forgotten Heroes - The Charge of the Heavy Brigade, by Roy Dutton, Gaunt ‘probably rode in the Charge’. He is also entitled to the clasp for Sebastopol.
