James Simpson was born in Charlton Abbotts, Gloucestershire and enlisted at Cheltenham. Serving with the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 6 October 1914. He was killed in action on 27 October 1914. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. Entitled to clasp. With copied m.i.c. and casualty details.
