Sydney Arthur Henry Edwards was born in Deal, Kent, lived in Barnet and enlisted at Woolwich. Serving in the 1st Battalion King’s Royal Rifle Corps, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 13 August 1914. Serving in “B” Company, 1st Battalion, he was killed in action during the First Battle of Ypres on 27 October 1914, aged 20 years. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres (Meninin Gate) Memorial. He was the son of Captain and Quartermaster C. H. Edwards (late K.R.R.C.) and Alice Agnes Edwards of Deal Villa, New Road, Barnet, Hertfordshire. Clasp confirmed. With copied m.i.c. and casualty details.
