Cecil Goodall Ross was the son of John Grant Ross and Elsie Goodall Ross of Montreal House, Perth. He was educated at Loretto School, Musselburgh and Trinity College, Oxford. 2nd Lieutenant Ross was awarded the Military Cross whilst serving with the Royal Scots Special Reserve - Trench Mortar Battery.
M.C. London Gazette 18 July 1917. ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He displayed the greatest skill and determination when commanding his battery. His co-operation with the infantry and total disregard for personal safety contributed greatly to the success of the advance.’
2nd Lieutenant Ross, 3rd Battalion, attached 45th Trench Mortar Battery, Royal Scots, was killed in action on 23 April 1917, aged 20 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial. With copied m.i.c., gazette extract and casualty details.
