8th Lanarkshire (Blythswood Rifles) Volunteers, a very rare officer’s star pattern QVC helmet plate 1880-1887, silver plated star and overlay with gilt centre, this being a lymphad on a torse with motto above, ‘Vincit Labor’, [Bloomer p59/60], the gilt worn on the centre otherwise excellent condition £300-400

The Lymphad and Motto was one of the family crests of Archibald Campbell, the 1st Baron Blythswood, a former Colonel of the Scots Fusilier Guards, the Lieutenant-Colonel of the 31st Lanarkshire (The Blythswood ) Rifle Volunteers and later Honorary Colonel of the successor unit, the 3rd Volunteer Battalion, The Highland Light Infantry.
