The following extract is taken from the Quarterly Statement of the Shipwrecked Fishermen and Mariners Royal Benevolent Society: ‘At the meeting of the Committee of Management, held on January 13, the meritorious action of the skipper and crew of the drifter Olivae, of Lowestoft, in rescuing the crew of the drifter Justifier on November 18, 1936, and of the skipper and crew of the drifter Ben and Lucy, of Lowestoft in rescuing the crew of the Ascendant on December 13, 1936, were considered, and the Society’s presentation Aneroids were awarded to Skipper Charles Grice, of the Olivae, and Skipper H. Thrower, of the Ben and Lucy, together with the Society’s Silver Life-Saving Medals to the nine other members of each crew. At the time of the rescues both vessels were drifting helplessly and rudderless in heavy seas.’
