Four: Sergeant (Pilot) D. H. Cockram, No. 70 Squadron, Royal Air Force, killed in operations over Messina in July 1943

1939-45 Star; Africa Star, clasp, North Africa 1942-43; Italy Star; War Medal, together with named condolence slip, portrait photograph, Pilot’s wings, several letters and telegrams reporting his death, and his Pilot’s Flying Log Book covering the period from August 1941, extremely fine (4) £200-250

Dennis Harold Cockram joined No. 70 Squadron in the Middle East in December 1942, having flown on one operation against Bremen the previous June, whilst with No. 15 O.T.U. He completed a further 27 operations in Wellingtons against targets in Crete, Noeth Africa and Sciily. He was reported missing from operations on the night of 7th/8th July 1943, when he was Captain of a Wellington detailed to carry out an attack on an enemy target in Sicily. His death was presumed to have taken place on 8 July 1943, and he is commemorated by name on the Alamein Memorial, Egypt.
