Minvielle & Chastanet began as a business partnership between Henry Minvielle, newly arrived from England, and Charles Chastanet in 1864. The coaling operations of Chastanet were absorbed into the company in 1885 and the business, which ceased coaling operations in 1940, remained family owned until 1973
