The bank opened on 1 November 1834 and was soon competing aggressively against the National Bank as each sought to expand their network of branches. A loss of confidence in the new bank led to a temporary closure in November 1836 and the resumption of business one month later appears to have coincided with a new series of notes engraved by W.H. Lizars. The bank stopped payment for a second and final time in 1841 and was finally wound up in 1851. The Limerick branch was opened in 1835. With large watermark but no printer’s imprint
