Henry Quinn was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. A Tailor by occupation, he attested for the Grenadier Guards at London on 23 September 1886, aged 15 years, 9 months. With the Grenadier Guards he served in Gibraltar, September 1897-July 1898 and in Egypt and Sudan, July-October 1898. Serving in the Nile Expedition of 1898 he was awarded the Queen’s medal and Khedive’s medal with clasp for Khartoum. He was discharged in London at his own request on 12 November 1904.
