John Alexander Ross served in the Second Boer War as a Private in the 12th Middlesex City Imperial Volunteers. He attested for the 14th (Reserve) (County of London) Battalion London Regiment (London Scottish) Territorial Force on 25 September 1914. As a Captain in the 14th Battalion London Regiment, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 23 January 1915. Later served as a Major and D.A.Q.M.G. of the Dover Garrison. After the war he lived at 'Manor Lodge, Hawley, Blackwater, Hampshire.
