Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., V.R., narrow suspension (Wm. George, Carp. Mate, H.M.S. Seahorse) feint jeweller’s mark on obverse, some edge bruising and contact marks, very fine £90-120

William George was born in Camelford, Cornwall on 18 March 1863. A Carpenter by occupation, he enlisted into the Royal Navy as Carpenter’s Crew on 14 September 1885. Promoted to Shipwright in December 1889 and Leading Shipwright in April 1893. Appointed Carpenter’s Mate in February 1898. Served on the special services vessel H.M.S. Seahorse, February 1898-October 1900 during which time he was awarded the L.S. & G.C. During the Boer War he served aboard H.M.S. Sybille, October 1900-February 1901, for which he was awarded the Q.S.A. without clasp. Pensioned 15 May 1907. With copied service paper and other research.
