On 28 July 1871, at Whitepoint, Queenstown, Ireland, J. D. Briggs, aged 131/2 years, of Queenstown, sank in 10 feet of water whilst bathing. Peter Sullivan, aged 20 years, a Boatman of Queenstown, rushed into the water with his clothes on and brought the boy out. A strong current was running at the time. The boy was insensible when rescued but was successfully revived. (Ref. R.H.S. Case No. 18,783).
