Jiwand Singh entered the Indian Army on 1 November 1867. Served in the Afghan Campaign of 1878-80 with the 11th Bengal Lancers and was slightly wounded at Deh Sarak, 24 March 1879. He was promoted to Jemadar in November 1888 and Ressaidar in September 1890. Took part in operations on the N.W. Frontier of India, including the Hazara Campaign of 1891. Also present during the action at Isazai in 1892 and with the Chitral Relief Force in 1895. The regimental history records, ‘At the crossing of the Swat River on April 7th 1895 during the relief of Chitral, “one bold man managed to clamber up behind a Sowar .... but Ressaldar Jiwand Singh put an end to the matter by sabering him”’. Jiwand Singh participated in further operations with the Malakand Field Force on the Punjab Frontier. With copied research.
