Travers Edward Madden was born on 19 August 1870. He received his first commission in the South Wales Borderers on 29 October 1890 and was appointed to the Indian Army on 15 October 1892. He attained the rank of Major on 21 October 1909. Served in Somaliland as a Captain in the 17th Infantry (The Loyal Regiment). Delhi Durbar confirmed when serving with the Supply and Transport Corps.
