M.M. London Gazette 18 October 1917. The original recommendation states:

‘Pioneer Seabrook, accompanied the Infantry in the assault and reconnoitred the ground to be crossed and the enemy’s trenches. He then marked the line to be followed so that the new trench would connect up with the trench it was proposed to use. Having performed this work under heavy fire, he returned and made a most detailed report. Throughout the progress of the work he continuously displayed great gallantry and coolness under exceptionally heavy shell and machine-gun fire. He brought in wounded from exposed positions, cheered and assisted his comrades, and by his example rendered great help to the Officers in charge. He has been previously reported upon for bravery and resources under fire.’

Harcourt Cecil Seabrook was born in Hornchurch, Essex, on 12 July 1885. Employed as a Butcher and Farmer, he attested for the 2nd Pioneer Battalion, Canadian Engineers, in Toronto in September 1915, arrived in England in December 1915 and entered France in March 1916. He was promoted to Sergeant in October 1917, the same month in which his M.M. was gazetted.
