Peter Riley was born in Edinburgh on 12 November 1889. Living in Canada and employed as a Book Keeper, and a serving member of the 96th Lake Superior Regiment (Militia), he enlisted in the 28th (North West) Battalion, Canadian Infantry, at Winnipeg in January 1915. Proceeding to England and thence to France, he later served with 6th Canadian Field Ambulance, C.A.M.C., and remained in France until May 1918 when he returned to England. For his services with the C.A.M.C. he was awarded the M.S.M., while in December 1918 he was discharged to a commission in the Saskatchewan Regiment. He retired from the Army in England in June 1919; sold with copied service papers.
