M.M. London Gazette 19 November 1917. The original recommendation states:

‘He showed marked and untiring ability in leadership, in the work of organisation and in the consolidation of the newly captured position. He led in mopping up this area and personally accounted for several Huns.’

Frederick William Gilpin was born in Newton Abbot, Devon on 28 January 1887. A Motorman by occupation, he attested for the 81st Battalion at Toronto in September 1915, arrived in England in May 1916, and was taken on to the strength of the 46th (South Saskatchewan) Battalion in France. Awarded the M.M., he was discharged at Toronto in January 1919; sold with copied service papers.
