Cowley was loaned to the Royal Canadian Navy in 1927-30, during which time he was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal. H.M.C.S. Stadacona was an American yacht acquired by the Royal Canadian Navy in August 1916, and employed as a Patrol Vessel out of Halifax, Nova Scotia. After the War, she was employed on fisheries patrol and hydrographic work until being paid off in 1931.
