Six: Lieutenant-Colonel J. H. Faulkner, Royal Warwickshire Regiment

John Herbert Faulkner was born on 30 August 1913. Commissioned into the Royal Warwickshire Regiment on 31 August 1933 and promoted to Lieutenant in August 1936. Served on the N.W. Frontier of India 1936-37. Promoted to Captain in August 1941; served as Acting Major, June-September 1941 and March 1943; Temporary Major, March 1943-November 1944 and May-September 1945. Appointed War Substantive Major in October 1945 and Major in August 146. Served as Acting Lieutenant-Colonel, July-September 1945 and Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel, October 1945-December 1948.

On 28 June 1944 Faulkner joined the 2nd Battalion Devonshire Regiment and was wounded on 11 July 1944 whilst commanding D Company. Only about 30 Warwicks were in Malaya serving in a variety of attachments, two with SAS, others attached to Gurkha and Malay units, security sections and garrison NCOs. Faulkner was serving in HQ Far East Land Forces. John Herbert Faulkner retired as Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel on 1 April 1958. In addition to his other accomplishments, the regimental history lists him as a pre-war champion rower. With some copied research and a Royal Warwickshire officers’ service dress cap badge.
