Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Wittebergen, S.A. 1901 (420 Corpl. F. Milne, Queenstown R.V.) good very fine £60-70
The Queenstown Rifle Volunteers made a gallant defence at Winburg in August 1900 against a vastly superior Boer force numbering some 1500. Notwithstanding two days’ shelling and rifle fire, and three nights’ sniping, the small force of about 240 men under Colonel Ridley, Imperial Yeomanry, held their position until relieved. The enemy twice demanded his surrender without avail.
