The following details were supplied by the recipient: received Borneo clasp while serving in H.M.S. Blackpool, anti-submarine frigate engaged in boat patrols in Brunei Bay and Tawau. The Malay Peninsula clasp was awarded while serving in H.M.S. Salisbury, anti-submarine and anti-aircraft frigate engaged against gun runners.
