R.); Belgian Croix de Guerre; together with a silver prize medallion, 45mm, hallmarks for Birmingham 1917, obverse engraved ‘France Dec. 1917’, reverse engraved ‘2nd West Yorkshire Regt., Football League, ‘C’ Company’, some edge bruising and contact wear throughout, generally nearly very fine or better (6) £340-380

London Gazette 3 September 1918. ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations, when he kept his company together under most difficult circumstances after a counter-attack had been broken up, and organised it against the enemy, who had nearly turned his left and endangered the whole brigade front. His courage and ability were most marked.’
