Rowland Henry Thomas Hill was born in 1846 and joined the Army at the age of 17, being appointed to the Madras Infantry. He served during the operations in Burma 1885-7 as Director of Transport to the Force (Mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp). Owing to ill-health, he retired in 1889 with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel, and later became a J.P. for the Cinque Ports and an Alderman of the Kent County Council. He died in January 1922. Sold with a copy newspaper obituary.
