A very good ‘Western Front’ M.M. group of three awarded to Gunner S. Kaye, 43rd Battery, 24th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery

Military Medal, G.V.R. (221120 Gnr., 43/By., 24/Bde., R.F.A.); British War and Victory Medals (221120 Gnr., R.A.); together with a quantity of interesting original documentation, including, Divisional Citation card, inscribed ‘on 21st march 1918 after serving your gun continuously under very heavy shelling all the morning, you engaged the enemy with the Lewis gun under close range machine-gun and rifle fire’; four page transcript of a letter written by recipient to his father, dated 9 May 1918, this giving comprehensive detail of the events of 21 March 1918, for which he was awarded the Military Medal; C.W.G.C. correspondence with next of kin; three poignant handwritten letters by recipients mother in tribute to her son; and a number of original photographs of recipient in uniform; and his grave marker, nearly extremely fine (3) £300-350

Stanley Kaye lived at Swiss Cottage and enlisted at Mill Hill, North London. He was killed in action in France and Flanders on 18 October 1918, and is buried at Busigny Communal Cemetery, France. The photographs of Kaye’s original wooden grave marker would suggest that he was of Jewish faith.
