One officer and 22 men of the Royal Highlanders served in the Mounted Infantry Camel Regiment at Abu Klea. Only 12 medals issued with 5 clasps including Abu Klea to this regiment, and approximately 70 to all units. Another medal named to this man was sold in the Sampson Collection 1991.

James Gill was born in the Parish of Old Machar, Aberdeen, and enlisted at Aberdeen on 13 October 1880, aged 20. He served in Egypt 1882, in the Eastern Soudan 1884, on the Nile Expedition 1884-85, and in the operations upon the Upper Nile 1885-86, including the battle of Ginnis. He received the Egypt Medal with five clasps for Tel-El-Kebir, Suakin 1884, El-Teb-Tamaai, The Nile 1884-85, and Abu Klea, and the Bronze Star. Sold with copy service papers.
