Three: Sergeant John Arnott, 42nd Royal Highlanders

Military General Service 1793-1814, 7 clasps, Corunna, Salamanca, Pyrenees, Nivelle, Nive, Orthes, Toulouse (Serjeant, 42nd Foot); Waterloo 1815 (Corp., 42nd or R.H. Reg. Infantry) fitted with replacement steel clip and silver bar suspension; 42nd Foot Regimental Medal for the Peninsular War, 8 Battle Honours on reverse, the edge impressed (Serj. J. Arnott) the Waterloo with contact marks and edge bruising, otherwise nearly very fine or better (3) £2500-3000

Ex Sampson Collection 1991.

John Arnott was born in the Parish of Gorbals, near Glasgow, Lanarkshire, and enlisted into the 42nd Foot at Edinburgh in August 1802, aged 19 Years. He served with the regiment in the Peninsula and as Corporal in No. 3 Company (Captain Donald Chisolm’s) at Waterloo, where he was severely wounded in the right breast. He was discharged at Buttevant, Ireland, on 16 October 1824, ‘worn out by long service’. He stated his intended place of residence to be Paisley and was granted a pension of 1s. 11d. per diem. He died at Bridge Street, Rothesay, on 14 October 1864. Sold with copy service papers and further research.
