Maharajpoor Star 1843 (Ensign G. E. Lane, H.M. 40th Regt.) engraved in the usual running script, with brass bar suspension, good very fine £300-350

George E. Lane joined the 40th Foot as an Ensign on 27 May 1842 and fought with the regiment at Maharajpoor for which he received the bronze star. Subsequently transferring into the 25th Foot, he was made Lieutenant on 22 July 1845, serving as Adjutant in 1852 prior to leaving the Army.
