Glamorganshire, ‘Glamorgan’ [probably Merthyr Tydfil], William Taitt, Richard Crawshay and Samuel Homfray, Jorden’s Proof Halfpenny, 1795, in silver, bust of Jestyn ap Gwrgan left, rev. Britannia seated left on globe, ship at left, pedestal at right, edge glamorgan halfpenny and four leaves, 11.76g/12h (DH 3b). Surface marks in fields both sides and some rubbing on highest points, otherwise about extremely fine and attractively toned, extremely rare £500-700

In the absence of a contemporary ticket to the contrary, it remains uncertain as to whether this is the same piece that Dalton knew that J.G. Murdoch once owned (pace Rasmussen FPL); there was no example in Murdoch’s auction of tokens in December 1904, however
